Oh, that would be a great system, I was thinking of doing something similar if I started reviewing books. I try to think in terms of a bell curve in terms of over-all story. Top 10% get 5, 20% get 4, 50% get 3, and the other end fits as well. The problem is art is subjective and no one thing is the same as another but if the average doesn't sit in the middle - 3 then what’s the average for? I suppose it helps to clarify things, to say in your review that a 3 is a ‘buy’ and a 2 is a ‘don’t buy.’ The other way to rate is by gut reaction… did you love it? Why? But then you have to quantify the depth of your love and qualify it with words. A 5-star love verses a 3-star love… I am still scratching my head over this one…
