There are very few e-ink readers that do not run on Linux.
PocketBook 902 does run on Linux. Its predecessor PocketBook 301 and 360 not only runs on linux, it allows users access to the system, installation of third-party applications without hacking. One of the third-party applications is Linux terminal emulator, that enabled us to access many interesting configuration files.
Installation of the emulator is super easy. Just copy one binary on the reader to the /system/games directory and it appears in the games menu. You can also replace internally used applications by placing your version to the /system/bin directory. Form the inside of the PocketBook system this directory is on the first place in PATH so your installed binary is used instead of default.
With configuration files it is the same. You place your version of config file into /system/config directory you see on your PC when you connect the device and your config file overrides the built-in one.
PocketBook 360 and 301 uses heavily modified Embedded Debian distro with busybox

I do not know how many of the above mentioned features are present in the newest firmware, but I VERY much hope that PocketBook will continue in their tradition of providing us with system that is much more open than any other system.

This is what sets them apart.
