where I live we are told to be able to sustain ourselves for up to a week with no resources even in the city. this is primarily due to the possibility of earthquakes. they figure that when the big one comes, and as I said before they are saying when not if, we will be cut off and everything will be shut down.

as for my own situation, we have been without power for a week plus. going to a hotel is not an option because a; there are not enough hotels for everyone and b; I have livestock. it is also 10 miles to the closest store (even if it would be open in severe weather). just getting there could be a huge issue alone!
