The 1p and 2p coins have been made of copper-plated steel (hence are magnetic) since September 1992. Earlier coins were made from bronze, and hence are non-magnetic.

To answer the original poster's question, however: all Sony Readers have a magnet at the top and bottom; it's used by the Sony covers to hold them shut.
