ok thanks - let's drop the separate drives issue -

what about the number of threads setting. why is the default value 6 & does tweaking that make any difference? ( to when calibre is given say 10+jobs to be getting on with )
FYI I have a core duo PC with 2 x 2.7 ghz cores & 2GB RAM
