Not sure about the whole 'in bed' theory. It might as well be that Kindles are just more popular. To me Sonys are the bes but it seems they're for people who know what they want -- and that is always a minority. I mean, look at PRS-350's review by Engadget:

If you're headed on vacation, you shouldn't have an issue loading up tons of titles onto the 2GB e-reader, but what if you decide you want to buy a book you saw someone reading on the plane? You've got to get out the laptop... well, you get the point.
I mean, neither can the vacationer in question be content with his 2GB of reading when the nearby guy is reading someone else, nor is he capable of spending five extra minutes to buy something worth many hours of reading -- or is his problem that he can't make a note and act on it later?
Besides, it takes some care just to notice Sony's benefits. I know that even Sony's lack of connectivity is a blessing for many, including yours truly, but most reviewers (leave alone consumers) see it as a disadvantage.
Still, I see the vicious cycle here. If they had their cases ready when the readers are ready, they'd definitely sell more. I do think M-Edge have a bit of reason to be in bed with Sony, actually: they're making premium cases and Sony's making premium devices
