Thanks Gwen...I love the science of glass making. it's quite fascinating so Gorilla Glass is an amazing revolution of the evolution of glassware. It's sort of like vehicle tires. It has been possible to make tires which essentially never wear out and still provide traction, but waaay back when, I believe it was Goodyear, decided they would make them softer so people would need to buy new ones more often. It was sort of a sea change in manufacturing and craftsmanship...companies began wandering into the whole area of planned obsolescence but w/o the look of it being intentional.
BTW...my favorite piece of glass is from about 1820-1840ish during a period when mass production of glass was just becoming a possibility. It has amazing clarity and quality only it is very brittle though strong.
