I have 3 working mp3 players (as well as one whose on/off switch broke that I use as (an expensive)
thumb drive.

Cowon I5 -- the battery door is a bit "touchy" these days, but it still works; I have a couple of Overdrive audiobooks on it as they don't expire there. Has bookmarking, though clunky to use.

Creative Zen Nano Plus -- probably my main player (a refurbished unit after my original one died after several years recently) -- plays Audible books, and Overdrives (don't expire here either), tiny in my shirt pocket, runs on swappable (recharge-able) batteries. Biggest con is no display for total time of file, only
time elapsed. Not quite a Shuffle, but the single-file-at-a-time access/display would be frustrating for music. Audible files self-bookmark, no dice with others

Cowon D2 -- I use it primarily when traveling as the ON/OFF needs both the touchscreen to pause/start the file, and then the switch itself, awkward for shorter reading periods (on buses, etc.). Otherwise it holds 8 GB internal, as well as SD cards. Handles everything: Overdrive, NetLibrary, ripped books, Audible, etc. (library books do expire).Plays videos, too (must be converted to .avi though). Bookmarking is incredibly simple.
Only .txt for text, and not easiest to navigate at that.
