I hope Webscriptions continues, but if the publisher won't say anything about it then it sounds as if your surmise is correct and its days are numbered.
@ ATDrake: I will definitely be getting some eBooks from Baen in any case; a bonus for the "lazy" in me if they contract with Amazon but I have no qualms about downloading from sites other than Amazon. I've only used Amazon and Project Gutenberg thus far, but that will change!
