I remember in 1968 when Jack Kent Cooke was granted the Los Angeles Kings expansion franchise, he said that there were (so many, I can't remember) thousands of Canadians living in southern California.
A few years later when he sold the team, he was reminded of what he said, and he said that he found out why they lived in southern California - they hate hockey!
