Unless things have changed recently, B&N chose to go with a different authentication method than the rest of the ePub selling bookstores. This means that B&N books won't work on a Sony reader. One advantage of stripping DRM is that you can read a B&N book on the Sony. Also, you can edit the CSS to your preference, change book formatting, and convert the book from one format to another. When the DRM is stripped, you don't have to worry about a book or a reader suddenly being deauthorized. I always hate for a book to stop working just as I get to the good part. I use Calibre to manage my ebooks and like adding the book cover and brief summary to the beginning of the book. That's only possible after the DRM is gone.
Personally, I've been buying ebooks for ten years now. In that time, I've purchased at least four different formats that are now obsolete (iSilo, Lit, ereader, mobipocket). Stripping DRM helps me guarantee that I can keep reading books that I own. The inconvenience of doing it is more than made up for by the ease of use once it's done.
