As much as I love bicycle geekery, this is so true.
Recipe for being a fast cyclist:
1. Buy relatively decent (reliable) bike.
2. Hammer yourself into oblivion five days a week.
3. Lots of rest and nothing on the weekend.
4. Clean diet, balanced with lots of good protein, carbs and fat.
$8,500, while a neat bike, is totally unnecessary.
