Funny that you mentioned Maverick. When I was first trying to master the art of writing a mystery, I realized that most Maverick plots were actually a simplified version of the kind of complicated twist-and-turn plotting that Agatha Christie did in a more subtle way. I actually studied Maverick to help myself learn.
