PDF conversion: something to be aware of

Some PDFs use slightly grey text, like #2f2f2f, instead of straight black, and when you convert them to mobi, the grey text may get carried over and the kindle will display slightly grey text instead of black. It's a greyscale capable device after all.

I was wondering why my k3 text didn't look as black as it had when I first got it. I thought my eyes were going bad after heaving reading, or the k3 display was going bad. Tried resetting and alt/g. Then by coincidence, I decided to reconvert the book I was reading (it was a PDF originally) to correct some errors, and I noticed all the embedded style with color:#2f2f2f. A ha!
