If you are happy with your Sony and it is still working then don't worry about buying a new reader.

If you are longing for a new reader fo whatever reason then make a checklist of the features that are important to you and look at the different readers based on what is on that checklist.

There is no need to change readers simply because all of your friends have Kindles. I would only do that if I had a really good friend who was willing to share an account and I would be able to read while spending less on books. I am not sure I know anyone who I would be willing to do that with outside of my family.

From Amazone Kindle site and License Agreement and Terms of Use, you are not allowed to download or navigate elsewhere than at Amazon. They can lock it or charge it at any time. Wifi and 3G are included only for their business, not your comfort.
If this was the case then Amazon would not include an internet browser. I am sure that Amazon is aware that sites have set up ways for people to download books directly to their Kindles from the browser. It is not like the sites hide this fact, most of the ones who do post step by step instructions for people. The browser on my DXG came with popular websites bookmarked for me. Sites like CNN. Why would they sell and ship me a product that they had programmed to break their own terms of use?
