It's actually one part of the reason why I like the series (though the last one was a bit too much repeats). Naturally, it wasn't one person who did all those discoveries. And not all within one life-time. But the way Ayla does these discoveries is plausible and might be the way those things got discovered. Probably not once, but several times, by various groups, over a long period of time.
