Maybe its just me but I leave the WiFi on.
It seems to disable itself when the Kindle goes to sleep and re-active when I wake the Kindle up. So when you aren't using the Kindle, the WiFi puts no extra drain on the battery.

I have ordered books online when away and when I come home and turn on the Kindle, it takes a few second for the WiFi and signal strength to appear at the top. Then the book that was "delivered" to the Kindle several hours ago finally downloads.

So to me it seems the only real battery drain will be having it on while you are reading and even then you would have to read for a very loooong time before it needs charging.
