Hi Friedhelm - the chances are slim of someone stealing your details when the page isn't SSL but you never know, someone could still "hack" their servers and steal that information that way. It's worth investigating SSL (https) alternatives any time you are entering personal information.
PS. by default Google uses an insecure login, you can force it to secure by entering
https://docs.google.com/ (note the https part in front, also works for Gmail etc).
