The two OSs are using different definitions of GB. Windows XP uses the classic definition based on the powers of 2 (1kb=1024 bytes, ...) and the current MacOSs use the "modern" (read: inflated) definition based on powers of 10 (1kb=1000 bytes). Hence Win translates 3,279,044,608 bytes as 3.05gb and Mac translates is as 3.24gb.
