Yup. I can't speak for the B&N free books, but after ordering my K3, I added probably 50 free classics to it from Amazon.

Got my K3, downloaded them, and they were pretty much all horribly formatted.

Thank goodness for this place and the members who have done all the hard work of formatting (and manybooks and feedbooks which I suspect is somehow automated, but still much better than Amazon, which seems to somehow be even worse than straight from Gutenberg. )

Still even here, one issue is that in a lot of cases the epub version is done better (or the mobi version isn't done at all), so you have to download that and convert with a kindle
