Actually, I think in long running series like the 1632 universe, CD's like this can help bring new readers into the series -- even if it means they won't buy earlier books in the series. I can't tell you the number of times I didn't buy a book in a book store because I realized it was in the middle of the series and the previous books were not available at the book store. Even if they were, it can be a bit discouraging to find out that there are 5-6 books to buy. This way, new readers can catch on the series and then start spending money on the newer books.
