That's a valid point you've got there.
For the Kindle I find the extra weight not annoying. But I can imagine if one has issues with weight; it could be; that's personal.
The cover on the Kindle gives me a secure feeling though: a good grip on the uneven surface and the feeling that my Kindle is well protected (and pretty).
As for the iPad; I must honestly say that the cover is quite heavy, and added to the weight of the tablet itself, I can imagine it could be a problem.
But that one also gives me a secure feeling about protection.
