Hello everyone!
My name's Ian, I've been lurking for a few days now, drinking in the collective wisdom of MobileRead members. What a fine bunch you all are, and I hope I don't lower the tone too far by joining you. I'm a historian and translator, born and living in the UK but with Russia as my adopted country. You'll infer from that I have particular requirements from any device I buy, but I'll post separately about that should it be that I can't glean sufficient information from the wealth of advice already posted.
What I will say at this stage is that, given my background, I was strongly suspicious of anything other than dead-tree books. But I finally got around to getting a smartphone, and even the ereader apps on there (Aldiko, Kindle) have converted me. So has the realisation that at last I can annotate material on a computer. Now all I need want is a dedicated device...
