Interesting. You of course would know Tadeusz Kościuszko. Did you know Australia's tallest mainland peak is Mount Kosciuszko (<---Wikipedia linky)? It was named by Polish explorer Strzelecki "because of its perceived resemblance to the Kościuszko Mound in Krakow" (well, there's a little confusion over Mount Townsend and Kosciuszko, but that's by-the-by now).

"A pinnacle, rocky and naked, predominant over several others...The particular configuration of this eminence struck me so forcibly by the similarity it bears to a tumulus elevated in Krakow over the tomb of the patriot Kosciuszko that, although in a foreign country, on foreign ground, but amongst a free people, who appreciate freedom and it votaries, I could not refrain from giving it the name Mount Kosciusko." (Strzelecki)

I enjoy the connections, from Poland to the U.S.A. to Oz, and the people wrapped around them.

Cheers,
Marc
