I like a bit of isolation and music. I *can* write in other environments, but given the choice, it's isolation and continuous music.

The kind of music matters. Not so much in style or genre, but in familiarity. When writing, it helps me focus if I already know the music. New music, especially new music I *like*, is too distracting. So I explore new music when I'm *not* writing.
