Palm Tungsten Screen Scream

I'm still doing the bulk of my reading on an ancient Palm Tungsten E2, but I've had some problem with the notorious screen scream (i.e., the device puts out a hideous, high-pitched whine whenever it's on). I've been using Warpspeed to lessen the scream, and that did the trick for a while, but it seems to be getting worse lately.

I'd love to upgrade to one of the new crop of dedicated e-readers, but I just don't have the disposable cash right now. I also kind of like having a backlit screen, since I tend to do a lot of reading at night and in poor lighting conditions.

Anyway, I've heard rumor that you can remove the scream altogether by dismantling the device, and placing a small scrap of paper between two components. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm not particularly afraid of taking anything apart, but I'd like to hear that it works before I go monkeying around with its innards.
