I am not asking for the technical details, but - can this be done by copying the files from the Kindle to the PC, without knowing the guy's Amazon password, or would she need to install the PC Kindle software, for which she would probably need the password?

Also: can this even be done? Last time I looked at a thread about this subject, I think I saw an explanation about Amazon having several different types of DRM, and not all of them being possible to remove. I might be wrong about this.
