I don't know of
anyone who considers Gandalf a Christ figure. He's not. In Christian terms, he's a lesser angel. His natural form is a spirit. He's given an old man's body for his mission in Middle Earth.
When he dies slaying the Balrog in Moria, his spirit returns to the West. His task isn't done, so he's given a new body and sent back.
