Parchment works quite well, and can be played offline as long as you loaded the game first* (I mean, play from the cache, since it's just javascript). I started hacking it a bit for the kindle screen, because by default it doesn't fit well, but nothing clean enough to be a contribution right now. Scrolling would still be an issue (you need to hit alt-g once in a while).

And despite what some others said in this thread, I tend to think of the kindle as the ultimate interactive fiction device: you can play from anywhere and it reads like a book (if you want to argue the keyboard is not good enough, be warned I used to play Zork on... a TI89).

* Kindle 3 browser doesn't support file:// as I heard previous versions did
