I forgot to check in on this thread. But, I went down to Davie, FL two days ago in order to pick up a filter for my HEPA (you'd be surprised how hard to find and ridiculously priced these things are) and they had the best deal possible.
On my way back home, I stopped at the Boca Town Square, just for the hell of it. And sure enough - they had the red 650 in stock.
So, being as impulsive as I am - I came home with one. Got the lighted cover as well. First impressions are positive. It's leap years ahead of my old 700, which my brother is enjoying way too much to be legal probably. This is what a reader should be.
Then I thought about returning my 350 for a refund. But then I remembered going through my first two or three 505's from them getting jostled around in my work bag (where I end up doing most of my downtime reading anyway...sssh, don't tell the boss) and decided to keep the 350 for its size/portability. The zipper case is reassuringly sturdy enough for me to throw in the bag. I can drop it into my back pocket and keep my hands free when I walk into restaurants.
The 650 will stay at home in its lighted cover on the nightstand.
Still keeping my K2, but the nook may end up on the auction block. The 3 or 5% cash back I get from using my B/N mastercard may not even be worth the trouble anymore. I let my book club membership lapse because it really didn't seen to be worth the membership fee anymore. I haven't been inside a B/N in about three weeks. Hrm...
What was the point of this thread?
Oh yeah. The new Sony pretty much took my favorite parts of all the other readers and combined them into one beautiful device.
Portable, touch screen, light weight, thumbnail/cover display, open access to content, speedy....
