Have you considered the new Sony PRS-650? It has the updated screen of the Kindle, it's nice and light, you can view books by bookcover, and you might enjoy the touchscreen, and it's battery should last longer than the nooks - about 2 weeks per charge. It also has an onscreen keyboard, 12 dictionaries included, can handle a wide variety of formats, you can now sort books into collections on the reader itself...

For some reason, the Nook has never appealed to me (but then again, I don't live in the U.S, so even buying it would be a hassle). I would consider buying a Kindle or the Kindle DX as a backup reader, mostly because of the Amazon Kindle store access. Of the 6 inch readers on the market, however, the PRS-650 is by far the most appealing to me, and seems to be much better for viewing PDFs than the Nook or Kindle (I read a lot of PDFs).
