Hmmm, really? I guess I can understand why the text-to-speech routine would need some conventions in formatting. But it's useful info, so thanks for mentioning it, Tim.
The single quote as default for speech seems to be the go in publishing here in OZ as well, but I believe it's a recent development in style. When I was at school, we were taught to use double quotes first.
