Update: The B&N App

I realized I didn't come back and finish this subthread, so:

Though I was able to establish the B&N app came from B&N (and is linked to from their own forums), I was unable to get help from their support team that allowed me to reopen the app and see my books. After an extended back-and-forth, with people who provided lots of suggestions, none of which worked, I finally decided to write it off. I have since shifted all of my B&N and eReader books to ePubs, and read them in either of my ePub readers.

I have to draw the conclusion that B&N has decided not to spend any real effort on updating their reader for WM smartphones. I can only guess it's because they are now such a small part of the smartphone market, the iPhone/iPod and Android machines literally leaving it in the dust. If they at least changed the app to allow you to continue using the old app, I might have a reason to go back to it. But as-is, not a chance.
