So I can't decide which reader I would like the most. My birthday is next week and I think my wife is getting me a Nook, so in a way the decision is possibly already made for me. However I've been reading alot about the various readers and have become slightly concerned about the future of the Nook and B&N.
Here are some of my thoughts personally on the two devices:
Nook:
- I LOVE the LCD screen at the bottom. I'm a bit of a visuals and OCD whore and have spent ALOT of time organizing my ebook library to have the correct book cover, titles, series, etc.
- I like that it's not owned by Amazon. I have had BAD luck with Amazon in the past but that's mostly with shipping physical items.
- I like the onscreen keyboard.
- I like that it's got a wide range of supported formats as well as the option to root it and play around with the OS.
Kindle 3:
- I like the screen, it's nice and updated.
- I like that it's more established and Amazon (despite my feelings about the company) has a ton of steam left.
- Kinda like the above, it's the third generation, we can look forward to more advances in the future.
- I hear it's faster than the nook but I haven't played with it.
- A larger book library that I can purchase from.
Some things that I NEED to have (rooted or basic):
Sort books by Genre and series, or the ability to search by those headers.
Easily allow me to upload my own books to the device.
Long battery life.
Ease of navigation, I can easily figure out most navigation menus but sometimes I don't want that hassle. I'd rather just easily flip around through things.
My biggest issue is I've recently replaced every book in my physical library with an ebook equivlent, all 350+ books. Most are in the .lit or .epub format and it's not an issue for me to convert to MOBI format with calibre. It'll take awhile but totally doable :P
