It is actually very easy to do. I did it myself (and I am definitely not a handyman) (I mentioned it
here on the irex forum). I didn't realise that it was possible to buy them modded like this. The bit that you need to cut is attached by a simple angle piece to the side that is easy to undo with a small screw driver. The wood is of nice quality and easy to cut with a small saw or chisel. I think the trickiest bit was finding the washer that I had dropped on the floor
