Yes, but how far do you have to go to show respect toward a belief you don't share? And how do you choose which beliefs you should respect openly and which you can ignore? Naturally, many of the beliefs we may inadvertently hurt are unknown to us. So the beliefs that we will "choose" to respect will inevitably be the ones that belong to people who are close to us... or who are especially vocal in voicing them, and even occasionally threatening.

Everybody knows that cows are sacred in India, and yet we kill cows every day. Where is our respect for the Hindu religion? (Em, I do hope it's the Hindu religion that hold cows are sacred, if not, my apologies to all concerned ).
