You obviously prefer navigating on a color touch screen over speed, but not everyone feels the same as you. Deriding the Kindle as a device that feels like it's from 1990 is not only wildly inaccurate (seriously, can you remember 1990?--electronics were not as slick as the Kindle back then) but also greatly underscores the utility of tactile buttons. The fact is that having a "'NOW' feel" is completely subjective and undefinable, as there are many things that could mean. To you that means having a touch screen on your ebook reader. Great. Good for you. But don't put down the Kindle because Amazon had a different aim in the make of its device. I think you've gotten too caught up in the look of a device and have not focused enough on how it operates.
I speak for myself only, but I don't think that's generally true. I think the LCD screen is an under-marketed advantage. I believe, after learning about all this the last few months, that the only reason most people are OK with the keyboard is that Kindle was first before the nook, Kindle marketed way better than any other and Kindle continues their marketing dominance. So, it's kind of a compliance thing at this point - it's what most people have gotten used to.

I imagine that if the situation were reversed - that Kindle always had the LCD and B&N came out with the keyboard version, many people's opinions on this would be COMPLETELY different. B&N would probably be derided in reviews and on forums as almost antiquated. But since the Kindle came out first and got the large market share and updates the rest of itself fast (Pearl screen, etc.), people got used to the old keyboard and joystick thing and started wanting to defend it.

I'm not saying that's what the posters in this thread are thinking or doing. That's just the general impression I get on these forums watching many Kindle owners defend the keyboard.
