Hello from Nicosia

Just found this forum linked in a review of the new Kindle 3. Now signed up but not yet explored anything.

My wife is the great novel reader and has been keeping an eye on eBook readers for a while. Being locked into one supplier and their commercial model is one of her gripes, as it is mine in IT generally.

When I purchase data I want to be able to use it as I choose, on the hardware that I find convenient . . . I'll stop now!

My wife's view? While she has access to a public library, and she does have free access to a English Language library in Nicosia, she sees little point in an eBook reader. In UK she can buy discounted paperbacks in supermarkets for less that the cost of a download - why would she go paperless, unless on holiday or travelling?

My interest is in a cheap tablet PC with a clear text screen. I only need a decent browser to do everything I want. An App to control audio visual kit remotely would be an advantage, but I can control everything from a web browser.

My 13 inch Samsung laptop is always at my side, but if I found a suitable 10 inch screen device that ran cool, ran a browser, and ran on the home WiFi I might easily have a go.

There are some Android devises which I must now explore.
