lot more than that, but as someone else commented, they "put the morbid into 'morbidly obese'". On the other hand, there are pro US football players who weigh 350lbs and aren't fat at all. It
is all relative.
An old friend who is a Wolfe fan once suggested that Wolfe's weight was a deliberate defense mechanism, because in his younger, slimmer days, a woman tried to poison him. His increased body mass is a partial defense against a repeat, as is his desire to stay as far away from women as possible.
(I am not familiar enough with the texts to say one way or the other whether that theory holds water.)
