I would hope it is, personally.

As a casual browser, I would never have ventured in to the Developer's Corner; even if I had, I would never have thought that a thread about the 2.5 would also include info on the 3 (such a specific thread title would suggest that any thread about the 3 would be named as such). So this thread has actually turned out to be incredibly useful for myself and, by the look of other comments here, others. Except you, obv.

It's actually quite acceptable (in most user-friendly sites) to post links to other relevant content, if that content is not immediatly obvious. Where you would have a genuine gripe is if the thread had pointed to another thread in the same forum (not a sub-forum); in this case, though, the thread being referenced is not only in a different location but also no longer named accurately.

So yes, in my experience I would say this particular instance is perfectly acceptable.
