You're right about the love-hate thing. Maybe it's a self-affirmation trait - "I'll be the boss of this technology". For me, I'm an EE and programmer - yet I much prefer it when things "just work". It's why I no longer make my own PCs or use linux distros that need you to tweak them for 6 days (Ubuntu for me). Maybe I'm just getting old
