It's not that easy. Especially if you've bought a Kindle for the ease of downloading and now you're having to figure out which of ten different versions of [name of program] to download to match your processor and what has to be installed before what and when you uninstall the wrong [name of program] and the new [2nd thing you have to download] can't find the new [name of program] because you had to restart and yadda yadda yadda.

For most people the answer is "no," you can't buy an ebook from Amazon and read it on a non-Kindle reader. Unfortunately.
