Probably I'm too narrow minded concerning PDFs. Originally, PDFs had been designed to preserve the layout. If you've got Stephen King as a PDF (but why should you? There are way more advanced file formats available), reflowing will just do fine.
But if you've got "more advanced" files, I find the results not satisfying. There's always something missing. Graphics, tables, formulas, ....

So, you're right: "Any kind of PDF" is too absolute in its terms. I'd rephrase: All of my files, for which PDF as a file format did make sense, don't work very well on my ePaper readers.
They by far work best on "the bigger ones" (iRex 1000S for example), without reflow.
