I think it would be better to say the Kindle's genius (and it is genius) is the effortless path to
buying books. It's certainly not effortless to do other things. Since I use my ereader for a lot of things, buying is only one aspect.
For a dry-goods retailer like Amazon, the less you think about your purchase, the better for them. The purchaser has all the time in the world, since the goods are non-perishable, while the seller has to move inventory or die. Bezos & co. figured out a way to make purchases nearly instantaneous, eliminating the thiking process of the unwary.
