Everyone has a different experience when using ereaders - I can remember when I first got my K3 I was disappointed because the black on the page turns was a lot more noticeable than on my K2. With the firmware updates, my K3 is much better and I don't seem to notice the page turning black between page turns even though it does.

So I just think perhaps for some people this blacking on the page turns appears worse and I'm also sure I read somewhere that no two eink screens are ever identical anyway so a replacement might actually work best for the OP.
