But we accept, 'it just does' everyday in our lives. The average person doesn't know how his/her TV works or even how their lawnmower works. They just get on with their lives.

I personally don't care how FTL works or if it is even possible. The author needs to explain such things if a major plot turn relys on it, but if it is merely a conveyance to get the characters to where the action is, I feel distracted by that sort of explanation.

Do we REALLY care how Grantville, W Virginia winds up up in medieval Germany?
