The sun emits a lot of heat and it can be transmittted by radiation. Black body absorbs a lot more incoming radiation than white body. Carbon in its graphite form is found to absorb about 97% of all radiation.

Since there are more reports on the graphite colored kindle to exhibit the slow page turns problems under sunlight, it does appear that the black coated kindle tend to absorb more heat. If that is the case, the kindle might have an overall heat dissipation problem and the graphite colored exterior just aggravates the effect.
