What exactly is set to read metadata from filename? The sony doesn't have that option.
calibre is, not the sony. but the files were not showing up mislabeled on the sony until the most recent update of calibre.
I confess to confusion. What does 'labeled' mean? Are you referring to a file name? If so, is that the name of the file on your Sony, or somewhere else?
i just mean the file name. the name of the file on the sony. on the computer. wherever.
If I understand you correctly, you have at least one txt file on your reader for which the reader displays ------------------ as the title. There isn't any obvious reason why that should happen, tweaks or otherwise, and (obviously) I can't see your reader, so to fix it you must do the typing.
i have multiple txt files that are showing up oddly. maybe 70. i prefer basic txt. they were showing up fine on the reader until this last update, now they are not. i had run into this issue before, several updates ago but managed to fix it on my own with help from the faq. i avoided updating calibre 2 times but figured i would update it again with this most recent update and sure enough the problem is back. this time i can't seem to figure it out. of course we did uninstall the software last time, so maybe i need to do that again.
Question 0: what version of calibre are you running? On what O/S & version?
0.7.18, on windows xp pro
Question 1: you haven't changed firmware? To use, for example, PRS+?
no changes
Question 2: what is the full path name *on the sony* for one of these txt files?
i'm not sure what you are looking for here. how do i find the path name?
Question 3: what does the sony's database entry for the file look like? To check this, and assuming you are running windows, open the file database/cache/media.xml found on your sony's main memory. Use wordpad. Don't save the file back.
i think this is the anne bishop one...
Question 4: does this happen to all txt files? And only txt files?
not all, and mostly. there are some mislabeled rtf's as well, but mainly txt files.

i hope that helps...
