Where you get your ebooks and whether you want to go through the drming process has the greatest impact on which reader may be for you.
While the Amazon bookstore has one of the best ebook selections, the Kindle does not play well with the Overdrive subscription service that the U.S. Public libraries use unless you use some tweeking and/or drm removal processes. Sony and several other ereaders do. On the other hand, if you purchase most of your ebooks, it couldn't be easier than on a Kindle.
