It wasn't Naomi Novik -- it was one of her cohorts, and I'd have to do a fair bit of digging to sort out which one. It did make something of a stink at the time, though, which is how I found out about it and read it. I was quite dismayed that a group that aspired to become the gatekeepers of fanfic would decide, or accept and promote the ideas of a person who decided, unilaterally, that only "real" form of fanfic was her particular preference. It was quite clear from the beginning that my ideals and OTW's were very different.
I didn't get involved with the big LJ fight, and I prefer to keep it that way. However, I do want to mention this statement from one of their board members:
"The OTW is an organization created to advocate for female-dominated transformative media fandom and its artworks. That is its purpose."
It has its purpose, but its purpose is not my purpose, and I would prefer that it not present itself as representative of all fanfic writers. They don't represent me. I just write fanfic.
